A woman who answered a Facebook advert that seemed to come from Precious Active Ageing Centre was talked into installing an app sent over WhatsApp, which let the scammer take over her phone and move almost $4,000 out of her bank account. Police put out an advisory about the impersonation on 9 October, so it is worth reminding older relatives never to install apps sent through chat links or enter one-time passwords for strangers, and to check directly with the centre instead.
