Geriatric doctors from Changi General Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital, with speakers from the Health Promotion Board and the Agency for Integrated Care, said at a Straits Times roundtable that difficulty getting up from a chair can be an early sign of muscle loss and frailty, which can often be reversed if caught early. The report notes that sarcopenia affects a third of Singaporeans aged 60 and above, and that only 36.8% of people aged 60 to 74 do muscle-strengthening exercise twice a week.
